My 2 cents: Fargo should differentiate the terms "rating, "skill level", and "ranking". Fargo attempts to assign you a single discrete rating that conflates ranking with skill level. Providing a single numeric assessment badge that represents your pecking order in the pool world hides a deep underlying complexity and variation across many unequal segments. This is a selling point of Fargo, but it has limited application for stronger comparisons. Perhaps one day, Fargo could give you 3 insights instead of 1, although this is not currently possible based on on their data collectiona and algorithm. •⁠ ⁠an overall rating •⁠ ⁠a fuzzy factor +/- range margin of error •⁠ ⁠a detailed per-segment set of ratings by game type and table size In the absence of more detailed insights, Fargo might be better off with a disclaimer, hinting that there is an unseen margin of error per underlying segment complexity. This could help allay confusion and subjective criticism. They could provide a disclaimer/explainer page that indicates what Fargo is and isn't, its use-cases and limitations. I would describe the current Fargo number as an average across different assessment segments rather than a "total" skill metric. I would decouple fargo into two metrics - skill level assessment and average-based ranking. Conflating the two is part of the problem. The current Fargo number is a "simple" representation, but in hiding the underlying complexity in an attempt to simplify leaves the interpretation open to subjective criticism and confusion. It should be as simple as possible, but not too simple.
